Kolbeh Kabob, Review

This is absolutely my favorite way to dine with food prepared home-made with fresh ingredients that are really good for you. Comfort through & through. Read on..

Orangevale is not known for Cuisine. But this little gem has given our redneck town something to talk about. I watched this restaurant struggle to open. 2 years to do so and have been talking about dining there for the last few months. Last night we dined. And oh so glad we did.

Upon entering you know you entered into a different, yet special world. It's classified "Persian" cuisine. We were started off with a basket of fresh grilled pita bread, Feta cheese, butter & mint. For our appetizer we ordered the Eggplant sauteed' in Olive Oil, Garlic & "spices" topped with a drizzle of yogurt which you then spread on more hot grilled pita. Pat who is not an eggplant fan, kept going in for more. In fact, he polished it.

Megan and I shared a dinner salad that was brimming with Persian cucumbers, carrots, Kalamata olives, Feta, which was tossed in a very light, lemony olive oil dressing. For our entrees, Megan & I split the Lamb Shank Stew that was braised in a delicate Saffron Sauce served with Basmati Rice which was drizzled with Saffron oil. To the rice you can add a table condiment of Sumac. Slightly lemony. Delicious. Pat had the Rack of Lamb dinner and OMG, they were amazing!! Perfectly seasoned with just a little salt & pepper, olive oil then grilled. There were 14 on the plate accompanied by the same rice and a large skewer of mixed vegetables. Again, perfectly seasoned and prepared. We decided with Pat's dish alone, our next dine, we could share the Lamb Chop entree with an appetizer or two. Excellent & perfectly executed food. We're hooked.

The service was good, not great, I would have enjoyed the waitress elaborating on some the cuisine her knowing this was our first time. That's ok. I'll just ask more questions next go.

The cuisine is all fresh, finest ingredients and all prepared to order. The 3 of us with drinks, appetizer, salad and entrees, dined for under $80. And the best part it's less than 2 miles away! Located in an Ugly Strip Mall across from Winco. I promise the next time to have photos of the food. My camera battery decided to die just as she started to bring out the food. We're making another trip next week. We will need a weekly Lamb chop fix. GO! GO! GO!
